Zakiya has spent the last few weeks working on some exciting new projects.
The first project was a reading for a new musical called “Remission”. The musical had three public readings as part of the NYMF Developmental Reading Series. An incredible creative team of all women included Rebekah M. Allen, composer, book writer and lyricist, director Portia Krueger and producer Megan Kingery. The talented cast starred Tony nominee Emily Skeggs, Krystina Alabado, Gerard Canonico, Perry Sherman, Brad Stanley and myself. More information can be found at http://www.remissionmusical.com/#cast-creative-section .
The next project – the Going to the River Festival – is a staged reading festival of works by female playwrights of color. Zakiya had the pleasure of portratying Indira in “The Face” by Amy Evans opposite gifted actors Garrett Hendricks and Kim Yancey. The powerful play was masterfully directed by Michele Shay and the event took pace at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in midtown Manhattan.
