Juli 1893 als Georg Ehrenfried Groß in Berlin geboren und ist der kritischste Zeichner Deutschlands in der Zeit von Beginn des ersten Weltkrieges bis zum Ausbruch des zweiten Weltkrieges.
Die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt kurz die politische scenario während der Vorkriegs- und Kriegsjahre des ersten Weltkrieges und die künstlerische Entwicklung von Georg Grosz anhand seines Frühwerks in dieser Zeit. Vorwiegend wird aus seine Zeichnungen eingegangen, weil sie als foundation aller druckgraphischen Werke und Gemälde dienen. Sie sind die Quelle, aus der er schöpft, und aus der Zeit bis 1918 sind forty-one erfaßt. Wenn auch in seinem Frühwerk keine politische Haltung formuliert ist, so zeigt doch seine frühe Beschäftigung mit dem Thema Mord seine Sensibilität für zukünftige Ereignisse. Der Massenmord an der Bevölkerung ist eine Erfahrung, die es vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg in diesen Ausmaßen nicht gegeben hat. Vorrangig wird anhand dieses Sujets sein Frühwerk erläutert, da sein Reifeprozeß an diesen Werken am deutlichsten erkennbar ist. Der Endpunkt der Betrachtung seines Frühwerks ist das Jahr 1918.
