GOMBRICH zum physiognomischen Ausdruck. GOMBRICH hat sich in seinen Werken oft mit diesem Phänomen beschäftigt und vor allem versucht, den physiognomischen Ausdruck nicht nur kunsthistorisch, sondern auch psychologisch zu erklären. Es ge lingt ihm, zwischen den Betrachtungsweisen des Kunsthistorikers, des Psychologen und zuweilen auch des Philosophen hin und her zu wechseln und so zu einem tieferen Verständnis des physiognomischen Ausdrucks zu gelangen, als es dem Beobachter aus nur einem dieser Wissenschaftsbereiche möglich wäre1. Diese Hausarbeit möchte zum einen einen Überblick über GOMBRICHs Ansichten bezüglich des physiognomischen Ausdrucks bieten und andererseits versuchen, die Ergebnisse seiner Betrachtungen an einem style zu überprüfen, das ohne die Wirkung des physiognomischen Ausdrucks nicht auskommen kann: dem Bilderbuch. Nach einer Begriffsklärung und einer weitergehenden Begründung, warum diese Hausarbeit gerade das Bilderbuch zur Untersuchung des physiognomischen Ausdrucks heranzieht, sollen Wirkungsweise und Merkmale des Phänomens beschrieben und untersucht werden.
